It is fun to play around with ingredients in smoothies and make lots of tasty creations, but the average day I do not have time for all the ingredients. I need something simple, healhty and fast to have with my breakfast. Here are my three favorite quick smoothies with only three ingredients (not including water), and they are all under 18 grams of sugar! Try including a green smoothie with your breakfast every day for a week. You will feel the difference!
Enjoy!
Basic Green Smoothie (17 grams of sugar, 3 grams of fiber)
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup green grapes, or 1/2 of an apple
- 1/2 frozen banana
- 1 cup greens
Chocolate Protein Smoothie (13 grams of sugar, 8 grams of fiber)
- 1 cup non-dairy unsweetened milk
- 1/2 frozen banana
- 1 scoop chocolate protein powder — I use Amazing Grass Amazing Meal Protein Powder
Citrus Green Smoothie (15 grams of sugar, 5 grams of fiber)
- 1/4 cup water
- juice from 1/2 a lemon
- 1 orange, peel removed
- 1 cup of greens

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Fast. Good. Energizing. Hugs to you!
Hi GPR!
Having found your site, I have been super gung-ho on smoothies! After plucking a mango from the groccery store a few days ago, I added part of it, avocado, and a banana to my smoothie. I’m a dairy-free girl, who loves coconut milk, so I added about a cup of that and a dash of O.J.
Let me tell you (GPR, YOU already know, but for an doubters out there…) AVOCADO in a smoothie is quite amazing! I’m a huge fan of them to begin with, but the texture and body of the smoothie was decadent and totaly guilt free, and perfect pre-mountain bike ride.
Thank you for the genius idea, never woulda thought of it without you.
Cheers!

I keep coming back to these smoothies and making them as a go-to for my daughter who is 2. I just made your citrus cough smoothie from your latest post and she saw us drinking it, started crying for a smoothie, so I whipped up the basic green from this post.
She’s sucking it down like it’s candy. I love that.
Are these cool yo just toss in a blender or are you using a juicer?
Hi Lily, I used my blender for all of these.
It looks like these are single (8-ish oz) servings… Would it be too much to consume a double serving (in terms of the raw kale, since it would be 2 cups in a 16 oz smoothie)? I’m new to the green smoothie world and just made a batch of your basic green recipe for my husband and myself. It’s super yummy but we were thinking the recipe would make more. Thanks for your input!
Doubling the recipe would be great! The more greens the better.
You’ll want to make sure you alternate / rotate greens occasionally. Use kale until you runs out, then switch to spinach, then switch back to kale or something new.
Glad you all enjoyed the Basic Green! Have a great day.
Grrrrreat recipe!
Granted, I have a cheap blender, but I had to add a considerable amount more water and some yogurt to even get this to mix. Any ideas? Besides buying a Vitamix haha
Oh my gosh, who cares! IT WAS DELICIOUS! I realized one problem might have been that I froze my grapes too. I added only a VERY small amount of yogurt so I wasn’t added too many more calories and fat. WOW! Thank you for the recipe! It was the perfect size and consisitency. I have YET to drink a green smoothie that I couldn’t taste the spinach in. This was wonderful. Sorry to go on and on but I am so happy to have found ‘IT’! Can’t wait to try all your other smoothies!
