Chocolate Banana PB Smoothie

I finally made it out for a long run this morning.  It was the first one since the marathon back in November and it felt so good!  About three miles into it I thought about turning around but thankfully I was running with my friend and we had committed to running eight miles and I did not want to let her down.  Every long run I go on I am amazed at how you can get the point where you want to stop, but if you keep pushing through your body clicks into auto-pilot and keeps going.  Just about the half way point today my body did just that and the miles back were smooth sailing, and we averaged about 30 second per mile faster than normal!  Needless to say, I’m back into the groove and can’t wait for my next long run.

After a hard workout your body needs protein and carbs to help refuel and recover.  I often hear from runners chocolate milk is their go-to drink after a long run.  So how about a chocolate-banana-peanut butter smoothie?  It has lots of protein from the peanut butter, sugar and potassium from the banana, and who can complain about a little chocolate added?   It is a little extra motivation for that hard workout.  But yes, even this smoothie has greens in it thanks to Amazing Grass Green Superfood Chocolate Powder.  The list of ingredients in the chocolate powder is nothing short of “Amazing”; wheat grass, broccoli, flax seed and on-and-on.  It is gluten-free, vegan, and raw, and adds a chocolate flavor to smoothies!  Shh, don’t tell your children.  I also use this powder in one of my favorites, the cabbage-chino smoothie.   You can find it at many Whole Foods store, and online.

Happy Smoothie Saturday!
